“Writing is a disease of the mind, which is expressed through a pen” is an odd saying that seems to contradict itself. The writer who said this was thinking about writing in a very different manner than we do these days. His point was that writing and the process of writing was a disease of the mind and not something you could just go and do where you can write with your fingers and type onto a keyboard. To him, words were powerful and they could make you feel terrible or wonderful depending on what they were used for. Writing was an expression of the mind, but it wasn’t the mind itself.
